The adaptation of Terry McMillan's best-selling book, about four middle-class, African-American friends, and their ongoing endeavors to find Mr. Right. The story starts with Bernadine, whose husband John with ease declares that he's abandoning her - for a white gal. In addition, the prosperous John was manipulating his money, and leaves behind Bernadine literally broke. But Bernie gets her payback, in a pretty 'fiery' manner. Next there's Savannah, who re-ignites a romance with her ex-boyfriend, who's married and with children. At the same time, dim-bulb Robin dates lots of Mr. Wrongs before returning to Russell, who's also married. Will one of them arrive at their senses? Ultimately, portly, single mom Gloria who quit looking for a man many years ago, focusing on raising her son instead. Paradoxically, it is she who actually finds love, with her new neighbor. For these four women, finding a man is supplementary to one main thing: their special love and affection for one another. And that is that helps them make it through the problems and heartache in their lives.
